Kicking off the academic year

The academic year has officially started, and new students are in the building attending orientation activities and workshops!  We have 65 incoming students in the two-year full time program, and they are a really diverse and good-looking group.  At the welcome meeting Sharon Thomas gave an overview of the background of the incoming class, and this cohort has talent!  Three students are returned Peace Corps Volunteers, the group represents volunteer and work experience in 33 countries on 6 continents, and among them there is a playwright, two triathletes, a student who developed an AIDS photojournalism project, a founder of a comedy troupe, a tour guide at the Forbidden City in Beijing, a professional dancer from NYC, and even a student who represented Puerto Rico in the Beijing Olympic Games!  And of course, they represent years of work and volunteer service in the Social Work field in areas ranging from aging to substance abuse.  It will be an exciting two years watching this cohort move through the program and make change in the surrounding community, and then take their education and experience out into the world.
