The Diversity Open House

Dean Jack Richman Welcomes Students to the Diversity Open House

Professor Wanda Reives and the Student Services Team recently welcomed North Carolina students to our annual UNC School of Social Work Diversity Open House.  Undergraduate students from Shaw University, NC Central University, St. Augustine’s College, as well as high school students from KIPP Charter School attended the event, and the response was overwhelmingly positive.  Focusing our efforts on providing support and information for promising students of color considering a profession in Social Work, we offered an overview presentation of our MSW program as well as the admissions and financial aid process, a GRE workshop provided by Fred Sexton of PrepSuccess, an extensive current student panel for open and honest conversation around navigating the MSW program from the student perspective, and School of Social Work faculty presentations.  It is events like this that speak to the School’s commitment to creating the rich and insightful learning environment that comes with having a program full of students who represent every possible walk of life.
